SYNOPSIS

The Lockheed "Shooting Star" once reigned as America's first viable fighter jet. Born amid World War II threats from Germany's superior Luftwaffe, it combined the latest British jet engine designs with an American airplane. A favorite of early "Top Gun" pilots, the jet became a formidable weapon early in the Korean War and then one of the most widely used trainers in the western world. Today's fans, both military and civilian, celebrate the "Shooting Star's" unique virtues in leading air shows worldwide.
